Subaru Cup Stage Race – WORS

What a beautiful weekend to do some mountain bike racing! This is the first time Beth was able to come to a race since most of the time she’s at home with the three little ones. It was really nice having her at the event for Father’s Day weekend.

The temperature was in the 80’s which made it feel muggy since it has been unseasonably cool. The weather conditions made for a gritty, grueling race transitioning from muggy shade to beating hot sun.

HOW 150

Over the weekend I rode in the [Heart of Wisconsin 150] put on by Aspirus. I have to give a shout out to [Gary Barden] for his graphic skills which granted a group of us volunteer status. The weather on Saturday and Sunday was perfect for riding and I enjoyed every minute of it!

Big Ring Classic 2k9

Headed to nine mile about noon on Sunday after fighting with a new chain guide. With Chad Page’s help we finally got the Intense’s new chain guide [MRP 1.X] mounted and ready to roll. Given the conditions, I stopped over at the parents house to use dad’s compressor to mount up a more appropriate front tire – a [Specialized Roll X].

At race time I was “called up” which I thought was pretty cool since I was mentioned with so very fast riders – including another Wausau local Ben Koenig.

After the boys birthday party the night before I was feeling a bit apprehensive about the race as I wasn’t mentally prepared, hadn’t eaten well, and had a few too many [Scarlet 7s and Sunbeam Nut Brown Ales] from Red Eye. In hindsite there is definitely something to be said for preparing for raceday!

The end result didn’t turn out well as I struggled with stomach cramps on the second lap and leg cramps on lap four.

WORS Big Ring Classic [Results] June 7, 2009 – 40th / 49 I’ll do better in two week!
