Updated Server – Photo From Race The Lake

Posted by joel on August 23, 2009

I finally have my Ubuntu server up and running to where I want it. Long story but… I blew away a volume by accident that it lived on and thats NOT a good thing! Had to rebuild from the beginning. All web related items were on a different volume – Thank goodness. Behind the scenes, I also optimized all my VM’s which should help with site performance and provides me a with a warm fuzzy feeling. :-D

I also have a picture from Race The Lake at the $500 climb.

Race The Lake

Posted by joel on August 15, 2009

Race The Lake is tomorrow. For those that don’t know, it is essentially a 90 mile road race around Lake Winnebago. There are a few items of mention:

  • The first person to the top of the hill at High Cliff State Park – you will win the “King of the Hill” and $500.
  • Overall winner $2000 – this will be doubled to $4,000 if you win and have an average speed that is greater than 24.8 mph!!  2nd gets $1500, 3rd 1000, 4th 700, 5th $600, 6th $500, 7th $400, 8th $300, 9th $200 and 10th $100.

This is pretty good motivation for getting a high average speed as you can see.

I have to say thanks to Punk and Mike (Beth’s aunt and uncle) for letting me stay at their place Saturday night in Neenah. Even with a proximity to the Fond Du Lac, I still need to get up at 3:30am to get to the start by 5:50am. I also need to thank Matt Block for letting me use a wheel as my Mavic R-Sys is on the fritz – “undetermined creaking”. Most likely the issue is the bearings in the rear hub.

It also appears we have a good number of riders from our team so that should help keep the average speed up. Whether we’ll come close to the record average is undetermined.

Updated Site

Posted by joel on August 13, 2009

In an ongoing effort to keep my family and friends current on what goes on within the Hynes family house hold, I thought it would be a great idea to update http://www.joelhynes.com with a more current interface. Most of the old posts are now in an archive stored away on a server at 424 and I will work on getting those published. For now, have a look at the updated version of the site.

As it pertains to the family, a few events have, are, and will take place:

  1. Gramma Bernies Bday – Aug 13, 2009
  2. Gavin’s 3rd Bday – Aug 14, 2009
  3. Logans return to Wausau – Aug 13, 2009
  4. Race the Lake (road race in Fon du Lac) Aug 16, 2009
  5. Most importantly, we are expecting our fourth child!
